Women and Children

in Odd Jobs

UNB News

July 8, 2000

Magura  – Driven by abject poverty, women and children of poor families of the district are increasingly taking up odd jobs for survival.

Distressed women and many under-15 children are being compelled to take up hard jobs in order to support their families.

They mainly work in hotels, restaurants, shops, brick-fields, motor garages, rice mills and other workshops. Minor boys are also seen pulling rickshaws or vans.

Despite hard labour, they cannot afford to buy adequate foods inviting various diseases.
