Taking Care of

New Born Babies

At the fourth week of the baby

Sleeping Safely

Most babies will adopt a favorite position to sleep in , but until they are old enough to roll over, they  will depend  on you to put them down so that they are comfortable, The safest position for a young baby to  sleep in, is on his back or side, not his tummy.

The latest guidelines on cot death stress the importance of sleeping  position in reducing the risk of a cot death . The risk can be reduced if  babies are not placed on their tummies when they are  going to sleep.

Keep temperature in your baby's room so that you feel comfortable in it ( 18c/65f) . Babies should be kept warm but they must not be allowed to get  too warm.

Use light-weight blankets which you can add to or take away according to the room temperature. Do not use a pillow or  a duvet which can be too warm and can easily cover a baby's head.

Babies can be laid down to sleep on their backs

Put the baby down on her side, with lower arm forward to prevent her rolling over
