Taking Care Of New Born Babies

At the first week of baby

Handling Your Baby

When you pick your new baby up, always take care to support his head. Babies like to be held closely and handled confidently - this makes them feel secure. Hold your baby against your shoulder, supporting his head, or cradled in your arm so that he/she can look up at your face.

Most new mothers and father are afraid of dropping their babies or of harming them by mistake, and may also be nervous of changing and bathing them. Remember that a baby will sense your nervousness and that it is therefore important to handle him firmly but gently.

when you pick your baby up, slip your hand under his head to prevent it from flopping backwards, and use the other hand to support his body.

Many babies like to be carried with their head resting on your shoulder. Use one hand to support his/her bottom and the other to prevent his/her head from flopping back.
