Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
(BUET) originated from "Dhaka Survey School" in the year 1876. In 1908 it was renamed as
of Engineering" for offering diploma course in Civil,
Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In February, 1948 the
then Government of East Bengal approved the up-gradation of this school to the status of a College named as
"Ahsanullah Engineering College" for offering degree courses
in engineering as a faculty of Engineering under Dhaka
University. Eventually it became a university in its own right in 1962.
BUET is one of the most prestigious
institutions for higher studies in engineering and technology in the country.
About five thousand students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies
in engineering, architecture, planning and science in this institution. The
total number of teachers is over four hundred.
The BUET campus is in the heart of Dhaka
- the capital city of Bangladesh. It has a compact campus with halls of
residence within walking distances of the academic buildings. The physical
expansion of the University over the last three decades has been impressive with
construction of new academic buildings, auditorium complex, halls of residence
