Ershad Shikdar under sentence of death again

Khulna, May 14 (UNB)- Ershad Shikdar and his two associates were today sentenced to death for murder of Advocate Jahangir Kabir Fatiq two years ago.

 

This was the third death sentence handed down to Ershad Shikdar, top terror of Khulna, and his close accomplices Liaqat Laskar and Jamai Farooq in less than three months.

Four people killed and others injured in road accident 

May 11, 2000  

    

Khulna, May 10 (UNB) – Four people, including a college teacher, were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident at Jhilerdanga bus stand on Khulna-Satkhira highway today (Wednesday).

 

Police said a bus of Divisional Minibus Owners Association plunged into a roadside ditch while overtaking a pickup at about 7:15am.

Gas cylinder crisis gripped Khulna

Khulna, May 9 (UNB) – Like many other districts of the country, gas cylinder crisis has also gripped the city, hampering household works.

 

Market sources said gas cylinder price has shot up in the city due to the crisis attributed to short supply. A cylinder full of gas is now selling at Tk 380-420 against the previous rate of Tk 295.

Police arrested associate of top terror Ershad Shikdar 

May 9, 2000  

   

Khulna, May 8 (UNB)- Police arrested close associate of top terror of the district Ershad Shikdar and one of the initiators of his Nalsity project Kabir Hossain Mridha today.

  

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested him at 11 am from the Railway TT colony in the town. He was wanted in connection with a GR case but went into hiding after the arrest of Ershad Shikdar.

Khulna, Apr 22 (UNB) – Police recovered the body of an accused person of a murder case from an abandoned toilet near Commerce College in the town on Friday.

 

Abdul Kuddus (40) of Joygachhi Raghunathpur village in Bagerhat thana was involved in various crimes including Nazrul murder case as the active member of an extremist party.

Sixteen people arrested under PSA

Khulna, Apr 15 (UNB) – Sixteen people were arrested and nearly hundred people accused under newly enacted Public Safety Act (PSA) in the city in last one-and-a-half months.

 

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) sources said the people were accused in 12 cases filed with three police stations under KMP.

Work stoppage in Khulna Medical

April 13, 2000

 

Khulna, Apr 12 (UNB) – Some 40 interne doctors of Khulna Medical College Hospital began an indefinite work stoppage from today demanding residential accommodation and allowances.

 

Witnesses said the interne doctors confined the Superintendent of the hospital in his room at 11am and staged a sit-in outside the room till this afternoon.
