James Cook University

James Cook University of North Queensland is named after the British explorer Captain James Cook. It  originated as the University College of Townsville, a part of the University of Queensland, in 1961. The University offers, above all, a personalized learning experience.

JCU is growing rapidly and has campuses in Townsville, Cairns and Mackay. The University has strong links with educational and research institutions and facilities around the world, particularly in the United States and South - East Asia.

The main campuses of James Cook University of North Queensland are located in Townsville and Cairns, both attractive tropical coastal cities with multicultural populations of more the 100,000. Both campuses offer a safe and friendly environment for study and socializing.

Townsville

The Townsville campus is located in bushland approximately 12 kilometers from the CBD whilst the Cairns campus, bordered by rainforest, is located in the suburb of Smithfield. Access to World Heritage listed rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef is easily afforded by both cities.

Cairns

Cairns is serviced by many direct international flights each week. A one – hour connecting flight to Townsville is available on a daily basis. Coach and train travel to Townsville provides a more leisurely and scenic alternative.
