Narsingdi, May 23 (UNB) – Over 100 poultry farms in Bhairab upazila have been closed for various reasons, including financial constraint, throwing several hundred people out of job.

30 people Injured in a head-on collision between two buses

April 30, 2000   

   

Narsingdi, Apr 29 (UNB) – At least 30 people were injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Dukundi in Raipura thana here on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway today (Friday).

  

Police said the accident took place at about 11:30am when a Sylhet-bound bus from Dhaka rammed into a bus coming from Habiganj.

Eleven shops gutted in a fire

April 24, 2000   

 

Narsingdi, Apr 23 (UNB) – Eleven shops were gutted in a fire at Sreerampur in Raipura thana on Saturday night.

 

Fire Brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a sweetmeat shop and engulfed nearby 10 other shops gutting valuables worth of Tk 20 lakh.

Armed assailants gunned down a youth

April 22, 2000   

 

Narsingdi, Apr 21 (UNB) – Armed assailants gunned down a youth at Kaudiapara in the town Thursday night and cut the tendons of his legs.

 

Police said Babul Mia, 25, was called out from his house at about 8:15pm and shot dead a few hundred yards off their house. Later the terrorists cut tendons of both legs.

Man Killed in accident

April 18, 2000   

 

Narsingdi, Apr 17 (UNB) – A middle aged man was killed and 5 others were injured when a cattle loaded truck skidded off the road and tumbled down at Baroicha, Belabo, on Dhaka-Sylhet this (Monday) morning.

 

Police said the mishap took place at 7 am when the truck driver tried to give side to another vehicle.

People killed in traffic mishap

April 16, 2000   

Narsingdi, Apr 15 (UNB) - Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a traffic mishap near Marjal bus stand in Raipura thana on Dhaka-Sylhet highway today (Saturday).

 

Police said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound bus from Bhairab dashed a roadside tree at 7.30 am.

Police-mob clash

April 12, 2000

 

Narsingdi, Apr 11 (UNB) – A police constable was killed and 30 villagers were injured in a police-mob clash at Begumabad village in Raipura thana today.

 

The clash ensued when a police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Raipura thanan went to the village at 7-30 am to arrest a wanted criminal.
