February 5, 2001

Chittagong, Feb 3 (UNB) – Road link between Chittagong and Kaptai was snapped as a portion of the road collapsed suddenly Friday evening.

Sources said a deep hole developed on the road at Brahmanhat under Rauzan upazila, about 40-km off the port city, due to cutting of soil from roadside.

An executive engineer of Roads & Highways Department today filed a case against the owners of four brick fields for illegally removing soil from the road.

Officials said they would soon float tender for repair works on the road but it might take at least one month for restoring normalcy on the road.

However, the Roads & Highways Department is trying to arrange an alternative way for vehicular movement on the road, they informed.
