KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - Ukraine and South Africa signed 10 cooperation agreements in the geology, transport, military, educational, health and agricultural spheres, South Africa's Deputy President Jacob Zuma said Wednesday.

Another 22 agreements are expected to be signed soon, Zuma added, according to the Interfax news agency. He said the documents didn't contain concrete projects, but created a basis for their development.

Zuma, on an official visit to this former Soviet republic, met with Ukrainian authorities, including President Leonid Kuchma, parliament speaker Ivan Pliushch, and Deputy President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Viktor Yanovskyi.

South Africa wants to enter the former Soviet Union's market through Ukraine, which has an advantageous geopolitical position, Zuma said.

Yanovskyi said Ukraine was interested in cooperating with South Africa in the production of new coal-mining equipment, supplying its transport planes to African countries, and exchanging experience of fruit cultivation and processing.

A group of South African business executives is expected to arrive in Kiev soon to discuss cooperation projects, Interfax reported.

Ukraine's trade with South Africa amounted to about dlrs 13 million last year, most of it imports from South Africa.
