SINGAPORE (AP) - Public toilets will be the focus of attention when restroom professionals meet with government and business representatives in Singapore next year, organizers said Friday.

The inaugural World Toilet Summit will take place in Singapore in November 2001, together with another exhibition, Restroom Asia 2001.

The summit will provide a venue for people to talk about toilets, which has been a difficult task in the past, according to Jack Sim, chairman of the World Toilet Summit Advisory Board, and president of Restroom Association (Singapore).

"The need to visit the toilet makes us all equal. The kind of problems associated with the toilet are shared by everybody worldwide every day," Sim said. "These problems are slow in finding answers because the subject remains a taboo in most cultures."

Sim hopes the event, which will take place every two years, will lead to the formation of a World Toilet Organization, that will globalize efforts to collect and disseminate information and enhance cooperation.

The conference and exhibition are expected to attract around 150 exhibitors from 15 countries, said Edward Liu, managing director of Conference and Exhibition Management Services, the organizers of the event.
