Prince Charles will not remarry Camilla |

LONDON (AP) - Prince Charles does not intend marrying his longtime companion Camilla Parker Bowles, according to a letter issued by his private secretary. The letter was sent on Monday to Britain's Press Complaints Commission in response to an article in The Sunday Times claiming that the prince was considering remarrying in Scotland. "Decisions like this are not taken lightly. We have got to the end of our tether," the letter, written by Stephen Lamport, said. "There is no intention of remarrying. We keep saying it, but it is ignored or dismissed as dissembling. "This is not just about the Prince of Wales. He is concerned for the feelings of his children, the children of Mrs. Parker Bowles, the memory of his late wife, and his public role," it continued. "By making this complaint we hope it will formally lay down, on St. James's Palace headed notepaper, that there is to be no wedding and so it is pointless speculation otherwise." It was the first time a formal complaint has been lodged directly on Charles' behalf with the press commission. Previously, he had only complained about an invasion of his sons' privacy. Charles and his advisers have been at pains to have the public accept 52-year-old Parker Bowles, who the prince's ex-wife, the late Princess Diana, blamed for the breakup of their marriage. When his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, agreed to meet Parker Bowles earlier this year, there was frenzied speculation in the media that a marriage might be on the cards. Opinion polls have shown that the public would not be in favor of them marrying. The Sunday Times had claimed that Charles was mulling over a Scottish marriage because The Presbyterian Church of Scotland is willing to remarry divorced people. The Anglican Church of England frowns on divorce. |
