LONDON, JUNE 11 (AP) - A new opinion poll indicates overwhelming public support for Queen Elizabeth It's social meeting with Camilla Parker Bowles, but suggests less than half favor a marriage between Prince Charles and his longtime love.

The 51-year-old prince has said repeatedly that he has no intention of remarrying, even though Princess Diana was killed nearly three years ago and Parker Bowles, 52, is divorced.

But that has not stemmed speculation, especially following the queen's attendance at a party last week at Charles' country house, where she chatted with Parker Bowles for the first time in years.

The queen's change of heart toward her son's relationship, which began in adultery while he was married to Princess Diana, won the approval of 72 percent of those asked in a MORI poll published in The Sunday Telegraph.

Asked whether the couple should marry or continue their relationship outside marriage, 44 percent said they should marry - down from 49 percent in November - and 31 percent said they

shouldn't.

Asked if Charles should become king if he is married to Parker Bowles, 57 percent said yes - down from 61 percent in November - and 38 percent said no.

To the prospect of Parker Bowles as queen, 71 percent said no and 24 percent said yes.

Questions about what events Parker Bowles should attend with Charles indicated support for her attendance at such social occasions as horse races -79 percent- and Prince William's birthday

- 67 percent- but not official engagements like the Opening of Parliament - 37 percent.

Market and Opinion Research International questioned 621 adults by telephone June 8-9. The margin of error is 3 percent.
