TOKYO--(AP) - Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori will stay in Tokyo a bit longer than planned because he has a cold, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

It was not immediately clear when Fujimori, who arrived on Friday, planned to return home, said Hisashi Ueno of the ministry's Central and South American Affairs Bureau. He would not elaborate on Fujimori's condition.

A man who answered the phone at the Peruvian Embassy in Tokyo on Saturday said no one was there who could comment.

Fujimori stopped in Tokyo for talks with Japanese officials on his way home from a summit of Pacific nations in Brunei.

He is rapidly losing political control at home and was criticized for leaving Peru to attend the Nov. 15-16 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

His aides have denied rumors that he may seek asylum in Malaysia or some other Asian country.

The Foreign Ministry's Ueno said Saturday that the Peruvian leader had not approached Japan with such a request.

Fujimori's son, Hiro, lives in Japan.
