Panchagarh, May 16 (UNB) – Mango and litchi growers in greater Dinajpur district are in an upbeat mood expecting a bountiful production of the two delicious tropical fruits.

According to experts, there is every possibility of bumper output of mango and litchi as fair weather persisted throughout the budding period of the two fruits.

Sources at Agriculture Extension Department said this year mango, jackfruit and litchi appeared in plenty in orchards on 177 hectares of land in the region.

They said 70 percent of the country’s total production of mango and litchi come from the northern region.

Some 1,000 mts of litchis are expected to be produced from orchards on 110 hectares of land in the greater Dinajpur district.

Madraji, Bombay, Kathali and Sitamati are among the famous verities of litchis that come from the Dinajpur region.

The most delicious verities of mangoes include Fazli, Ranibhog, Gopalbhog, Misribhog, Lengra, Guti, Himshagar and Shurjapuri.

“If things go well, we are going to make good profits this year,” said mango grower Ajmal Bepari.

Meanwhile, the two tropical fruits have started hitting the markets, including that of Dhaka, and their prices vary from verity to verity.
