ECNEC approved five projects involving Tk 3,721.47 cr

Dhaka, May 16 (UNB) – Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved five projects involving Tk 3,721.47 crore of which nearly Tk 1,446.70 crore will be project grant.

 

The projects were approved at an ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. This was the 80th meeting of ECNEC during the present government.

 

The projects include construction of a link road from Oxygen junction to Kaptai crossing in Chittagong (revised), link road from Greater Road to By-pass Road in Rajshahi and Irrigation Extension Project (1st phase) through double-lifting of surface water.

 

Others include setting up of a 450-megawatt combined cycle power plant at Bheramara and installation of its transmission lines and procurement of nine dredgers for improving navigability in river channels.

 

The meeting accepted a presentation of the Planning Commission on the development projects in Dhanmondi Lake and adjacent areas.

 

State Minister for Planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir placed reports on several development projects, including roads and drain construction at Shantinagar and Bailey Road in Dhaka, preservation of rubber garden, extension of rubber cultivation, Women Agriculture Training Institute at Bagerhat, integrated programe for child development and checking child trafficking and setting up of Government Shishu Paribar at Bandarban.

 

Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, LGRD Minister Zillur Rahman, Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury, Science and Technology Minister Noor Uddin Khan, Civial Aviation, Tourism, Housing and Public Works Minister Engr Mosharraf Hossain and State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Prof Rafiqul Islam attended the meeting.

 

Principal Secretary to the PM, Planning Secretary, Finance Secretary, members of the Planning Commission, and other high officials concerned were also present, said an official handout.
