Commerce ministers of BIMSTEC meet in Myanmar today |

Dhaka-- (UNB) - The 3rd meeting of the commerce ministers of BIMSTEC, a sub-regional group of five Southeast Asian countries for economic cooperation, begins in the capital of Myanmar today (Thursday). Commerce Minister Mohammad Abdul Jalil, who will lead a five-member Bangladesh delegation to the meeting, leaves here for Myanmar yesterday(Wednesday). He will present a country-paper in the meeting. Various bilateral issues relating to trade and increased economic cooperation among the BIMSTEC member countries, comprising Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand, will come up in the meeting for discussion. The meeting will also focus on the progress of implementation of the decisions taken in its previous meeting. The Commerce Minister will also meet with his Myanmar counterpart and discuss matters of bilateral issues. He will later call on the Chairman of State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) of Myanmar and discuss matters of mutual interests. The minister will address a meeting of Myanmar businesspeople and urge them to invest in Bangladesh. The minister is expected to return home on Feb 18. |
