Dhaka--(UNB) – Sugarcane cultivation has increased in the country with the rise of sugar price by the government by Tk 4 per maund.

According to a press release issued by Bangladesh Sugar & Food Industries Corporation, over 2 lakh acres of land were brought under sugarcane production this year, up 2.15 lakh acres than the target.

It said the corporation has also strengthened its extension work in mill areas to encourage the farmers to grow more sugarcane.

The government has raised sugarcane price to Tk 41 from Tk 37 from 2000-2001 fiscal.
