FBCCI to get own Federation building beside World Trade Centre |

Dhaka- (UNB) – Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil yesterday assured business leaders of all government cooperation ensuring private sector’s greater participation in socioeconomic development of the country. He also assured FBCCI leaders of allotting a piece of land for their own Federation building beside the proposed World Trade Centre (WTC). The plot will be allotted immediately after the foundation laying ceremony of the WTC, he said in a meeting with the new FBCCI executive committee at his office. FBCCI president Yussuf Abdullah Harun led the delegation. Meeting sources quoted Jalil as saying that all measures, including financial support, would be taken to strengthen the chambers across the country. For misuse of huge money every year in arranging DITF, he said some 48 acres of land in old airport area had already been acquired to set up permanent fair venue to save crores of taka. He expected that the next international trade fair would be arranged at the new venue. About various business problems, including terrorist activities, raised by the business leaders the minister said solution of the problems accumulated over the years is not possible at one go. “The present government is very much aware in this regard,” he told the FBCCI delegation. Lauding government’s steps to establish the private sector on a strong footing, FBCCI president Harun called upon the government to reflect measures in the next budget to protect local industries from the emerging challenges of WTO regime. There is lot of scope to protect local industries remaining under WTO, he said. |
