UN World Food Program to assist flood affected people |

Dhaka--(UNB) – The UN World Food Programme (WFP) will provide 84,903 mts of food worth US $ 31.5 million (approx Tk 169.5 crore) to Bangladesh for implementation of the WFP-assisted project “Assistance to flood affected people in Southwest Bangladesh.” The food includes 64,524 mts of wheat, 11,405 mts of lentils, 5,132 mts of vegetable oil, 2,842 mts of wheat soya blend and 1,000 mts of fortified biscuits. A Letter of Understanding (LOU) to this effect was signed here today, said a press release. ERD Secretary Dr Masihur Rahman and WFP representative Pieter Dijkhuizen in Dhaka signed the LOU on behalf of their respective sides. Under the LOU, food assistance will be provided to the flood affected people of 6 upazilas of 3 southwest districts -- Jessore, Satkhira and Jhenidah. The programme will be implemented jointly by Ministry of Food, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and Primary and Mass Education Division. |
