Narayanganj-- (UNB) – A devastating fire in a textile mill burnt down its three cotton godowns and eight nearby factories yesterday.

Witnesses said the fire occurred in Ujan Textile Mill at Godnail in Shiddhirganj upazila from a spark in a spinning wheel at noon.

“Soon the flames spread to nearby areas burning small factories. People panicked as billows of smoke darkened the skies over the area,” says a spot report.

The other gutted business establishments include Tithi enterprise, Tripti enterprise and Arif Traders.

Firefighters from Demra, Mondalpara and Hajiganj rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control after about three and a half hour of frantic effort.

The owners estimated the damages could run up to taka half a crore.
