Sylhet-- (UNB)- Entrepreneurs and businessmen of the district have welcomed the recent establishment of the divisional office of the Board of Investment here raising new hopes for increased investment and economic activity.

Board sources said that the regional office would be helpful in expediting the setting up of Industrial and High Tech Parks in which entrepreneurs would be given plots for setting up industries.

Some 177 acres of land have been earmarked for setting the park in Goaenghat upazila. There is also a plan to set up a High Tech park on 18 acres of land south of the Surma near Sylhet town.

The unutilized land of BSCIC industrial estate is also being considered for establishing the park, official sources said.

The BOI office here will explore the possibilities of setting up of industries based on locally available raw materials.

Sources said the scope of large investment was wider in the district with funds held by many rich families and expatriates of the district remain unutilized in the banks.

The officials of the local BOI said they would play a vital role in encouraging the people to invest in various profitable ventures. Director of the office Masud Hossain said they would give priority and extend all out assistance to joint venture initiatives.
