Sangsad Bhaban-- (UNB) - Bangladesh's bilateral trade with India looks slightly better as the country's export increased by 15.4 per cent and import fell by 29.4 per cent during fiscal 1999-2000.

Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil stated this in Parliament yesterday(Thursday) in a written reply to Kamal Ahmed Majumdar (Awami League-Dhaka).

Import from India was Tk 4,188.9 crore while export from here was barely Tk 330.9 crore during 1999-2000, he told the House.

However, the two-way trade is heavily inclined to India.

In reply to Farooq Khan (AL-Gopalganj), the Minister said the country's export target of Tk 27,972.75 crore for fiscal 1999-2000 was met with the earning reaching Tk 28,818.52 crore.

Meanwhile, Food Minister Amir Hossain Amu told Begum Meher Afroz (AL) in Parliament yesterdaythat 17 new food godowns would be constructed at strategic places with capacity of 12,500 metric tons.
