USAID provided development assistance worth US$ 92.7m |

Dhaka--(UNB) – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided Bangladesh with development assistance worth US dollars 92.7 million during the fiscal year ended on September 30 this year. Of the total amount, 41.1 million-dollar was given to support the PL-480 Title II programme under which the USAID donated almost 180,000 metric tons of wheat to Bangladesh, a USIS press release said here yesterday (Tuesday). The wheat was utilised in food for education programme. Under the Title II agreement, the ministry of finance deposited Taka 205.5 crore, equivalent to the value of the wheat, into a development account for basic rural infrastructure construction and disaster management activities. Another major recipient of the USAID assistance was the sector of population, health and nutrition, which received 34.3 million dollars. During the year, projects to support and develop small and medium-scale businesses and agribusiness development received $ 6.8 million, the energy sector received $ 3.8 million, food security and disaster preparedness $ 1.3 million, and support for democracy and human rights $ 5.4 million. |
