Re: Culture
Description:

I personally believe that no one culture is the best and everyone should try to retain the good values/traditions of one’s own culture while replace the bad elements with good ones from other cultures. Unfortunately we do it the other way round! For example, the young people of Bangladesh always complain that they don’t get enough freedom from their parents like their counterpart in the west. What they miss (or conveniently avoid) is that the young people in the west enjoys freedom because they become independent at a much earlier stage in life. In general, our parents bear all or most of our expenses until we finish studying and get a job. Whereas in the west, most people become independent when they start going to college. What’s the point saying that my parents should let me date whomever I want when it’s actually they who pay for the gifts I buy for my date! Freedom comes with responsibility – one should not seek one while avoiding the other. I personally think that two people in love should be able to express their love for each other in public (or in whatever way they want as long as it is not causing any harm to anyone) because love is natural and wonderful (an attitude which is absent in Bangladesh especially among the older people). But I also believe that if the wife cooks, the husband should do the dishes and vice versa. I wonder how many guys in Bangladesh who has adopted the western view/approach toward love also believe in this! Instead of blindly imitating another culture or conveniently espousing it partially, one should try to adopt the best practices from all the different cultures.
