bd_KonkaBoti, I was not making any comparison when I said that we were yet to see a female president in the US. Although the head of the two leading political parties in Bangladesh are women, that does not necessarily mean that women are more important in Bangladesh. I think we all know why they are in charge - because one is the daughter and the other one is the widow of former male leaders in the country. They have sentimental value – it’s very easy to exploit the emotions of the gushy Bangladeshi people. Jacquelyn Kennedy was revered in the US but she could not take advantage of it by trying to become the president because people were relatively more practical in the US – they would revere a woman but would not let her become the president! The US has recognized that women need special protection because they are vulnerable – we are yet to reach that stage. In that sense, the US is better than Bangladesh. But that is not the solution – that is only an effort to deal with the symptoms of the problem.
