Arsenic detected in water of more areas

Netrakona (UNB) - Arsenic content, beyond permissible limit, has been detected in tube well waters in 10 upazilas of the district.


The affected upazilas are Sadar, Mohanganj, Atpara, Madan, Kendua, Barhatta, Purbadhala, Durgapur, Kalmakanda and Khaliajuri.


According to the Department of Public Health Engineering, about 500 tube wells of the upazilas are arsenic affected.


DPHE has confirmed the arsenic contamination after testing the waters of these tube wells.


Abdul Kasem of village Kharnai in Kalmakanda upazila complained that his children and neighbours have been suffering from skin disease following the intake of tubewell water.


Some other people of Durgapur upazila have also been suffering from arsenic related diseases.
