Dhaka-- – Bangladesh will preside over the special session on HIV/AIDS in the United Nations in June next.
Visiting Director of UNAIDS Dr Olavi Elo informed this when he called on Health and Family Welfare Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim at his office yesterday.
They discussed matters relating to present situation of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh. The UNAIDS director expressed his satisfaction over the low prevalence of AIDS in the country.
Appreciating the steps taken up by the Bangladesh government in preventing AIDS, Dr Olavi said the UNAIDS would continue to render all out cooperation to Bangladesh in this regard.
Associate Director of UNAIDS Werosit Sittitrai, Country Programme Advisor Getta Sethi and Chairman of Technical Committee of National AIDS Committee Major General ASM Matiur Rahman were present during the discussion.
