Dhaka--(UNB) – The government has launched a survey programme in 40 arsenic-affected upazilas to detect the tube-wells pumping out arsenic contaminated waters.

Local Government Minister Zillur Rahman inaugurated the survey programme at Bhoirab upazila recently.

The objective of the programme is to examine the intensity of arsenic in tube-well waters in the upazilas, identify the people affected by arsenic-liked diseases and create mass awareness about its consequence.

Meanwhile, committees have been formed at ward, union, upazila and district levels for tackling the arsenic menace, according to a handout.
