Canada to assist Bangladesh in Arsenic Mitigation Project |

Dhaka--(UNB) – Canada will provide CDN$ 3.952 million (equivalent to Tk 13 crore) to Bangladesh over a period of 30 months to ‘the Environment Technology Verification - Arsenic Mitigation Project’ project. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to this effect was signed between the two countries yesterday (Tuesday). ERD Secretary Dr Masihur Rahman and Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh David Preston singed the MOU on behalf of their respective governments. The purpose of the this project is to assist the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and Bangladesh Arsenic Mitigation Water Supply Project (BAMWSP) to evaluate the appropriateness and applicability to Bangladesh of technologies for removing arsenic from ground water using rigorous technology assessment and verification. The goal of this project is to address basic human needs in Bangladesh by providing safe drinking water at the point of use for people currently affected by arsenic poisoning. |
