Comilla--(UNB) – Some 8,56,882 under-five children were given polio vaccine in the district during the first round of National Immunization Day this year.


Officials said the number of under-five children in 12 upazilas and two pourasavas of the district stood at 8,92,385 and the rate of vaccination is 96 in 100.


They said some 11,600 newborns were administered polio vaccine first time this year.


Apart from polio vaccine, over 7.35 lakh children of 1-5 age group were provided with Vitamin ‘A’ capsule on the first round of the NID on November 15.


A total of 1,570 health workers and 16,999 volunteers conducted the polio vaccination drive in 180 unions of 12 upazilas and 4,353 centres in two pourasavas of the district.


The second round of NID will be held on December 17.
