Malaria broke out in an epidemic form in Hill Tract |

Rangamati-- (UNB)- Malaria that broke out in an epidemic form in the district claimed 50 lives and affected several hundred people in last six months. Hospital sources said scores of people have been coming to the hospitals and health clinics every day from far-flung areas. The worst affected areas are Balukhali, Zeebtoli, Mogban and Boradam of Sadar upazila, Boro Horina and Gorosthan area of Borkol upazila, Jajek and Amtoli areas of Baghaichhari upazila and Chitmaram and Chandraghona of Kaptai upazila. Health department sources said 25 health workers in each upazila have been assigned to collect blood samples from malaria patients regularly for examination. But local people alleged that they are hardly seen in the affected areas. The local leaders have urged authority concerned to take immediate steps to combat the menace effectively. |
