Doctors’ leave cancelled in flood-hit areas

Dhaka (UNB) – All kinds of leave of the government medical staff in the flood affected areas have been suspended until further order.


The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held yesterday (Sunday) with Health and Family Welfare Minister Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in the chair.


The meeting reviewed the flood and diarrhoea situation in the north and southwestern districts of the country.


It was apprised that 461 medical teams were working in the flood-hit areas where 3,843 people attacked by diarrhoea and other diseases.


The meeting decided to deploy more medical teams to the affected areas from the flood-free zones and sanctioned additional fund to combat diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases.


The meeting also decided to supply anti-snake venom to the civil surgeons of the affected districts.


Adequate stock of required medicines including ORS, water purifying tablets have been ensured.


The meeting directed the medical teams to monitor situation in different shelters and camps. It also decided to include family planning doctor to work with the medical teams.


State Minister for Health Prof Dr M Amanullah, Health Secretary Sayed Alagmir Farrouk Chowdhury, DG (Health) Prof ABM Ahsanullah, Director of Diarrhoea Control and all senior officials of the health ministry were present.
