Waterborne diseases break out in epidemic form |

Magura-- (UNB) – With the recession of floodwater, waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea, have broken out in an epidemic form in the district. Officials said 71 people have so far been affected by diarrhoea in Sadar and 10 in Shalikha upazilas, where 11 medical teams are working round-the-clock. According to local flood control office, 58,566 people of 11,440 families were affected and 76 bridges and culverts and 21,341 acres of land in the two upazilas damaged in the flood. Meanwhile, the government has set up eight flood centres and distributed 18 metric tons of rice among the affected people. The flood victims, who have taken shelter in Phoolbaria, Khoipara, Dhaneshwargati and Singra centres alleged that diarrhoea has broken out in an alarming proportion. |
