Dhaka (UNB) - A 76th minute goal by Kennedy enabled Abahani Limited to earn full points against an impressive Farashganj Sporting Club in the NBL Premier Division Football League at the flood-lit Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday (Thursday).

After a hard fought match against well-coordinated defense by the old city club, Abahani’s Ghanaian striker Kennedy headed home as an opposition defender tried to clear a Kanchan through by a header.

Farashganj’s defense already gained credit in the ongoing prestigious league, but with the inclusion of Nigerian Abdullah they looked unbeatable. The lanky African central defender made the Abahani attack look useless.

But the celebrated Dhanmondi outfit should give all credits to their custodian Biplob for the day’s hard-fought victory as he rescued his team on three occasions foiling what looked like certain goals.

On the first occasion, in the 21st minute, Biplob brilliantly saved the shot of Sabbir Ahmed Palash, who raced to the danger zone winning a ball against Abahani defender Nazrul with the goalie alone under the bar.

Biplob again saved a left-footed shot of Palash for a corner in the 22nd minute of the second half. Again, just one minute before the end of regulation time, the lanky Abahani custodian fisted away a fierce free kick of Farashganj central defender, Abdullah.

Abahani Limited failed to reach the opposition danger zone in the first half, but they looked better after lemon break and created two opportunities.

In the 14th minute of the second half, a header of national striker Mizanur Rahman Don from Arman corner narrowly missed the target while a Sentu shot from Kennedy corner went out of play as it whistled past the side bar.

Abahani maintained their all-win record in the league with 12 points after the day’s victory while Farashganj tasted their first defeat in the league after one win and two losses in tie-breakers.

Yellow cards: Iqbal (Abahani), Bidyut, Ashkar Babu and Abdullah (Farashganj).

Abahani Limited: Biplob, Tito, Nazrul, Ghansa, Dulal (Mithu), Iqbal, Zakir, Kennedy, Kanchan, Don (Sentu) and Galiv Imran (Arman).

Farashganj SC: Dhanu (Abir), Jewel (Sohel), Abdullah, Ashraful, Masud Rana, Chandan, Babu, Bidyut, Mithu, Jalal and Palash.

Referee: Goalm Mustafa.
