DAKAR, APR 24 (AP) - Senegal defeated visitors Benin 1-0 on Sunday in a closely fought World Cup qualifying round match marked by numerous yellow cards for the visitors.

The match featured the first international appearance for Senegal by Elhadj Daiouf, an attacker who plays for French 1st division club Rennes.

Senegalese defender Sidy Ba scored in the 63rd minute in a goalmouth scramble.

With the win, Senegal scraped into the next round of World Cup African zone qualifying play following a 1-1 tie earlier this month in Cotonou, Benin.
