Dhaka-- (UNB) - Abahani Limited finished their super-four campaign of the NBL Premier Division Football League with a happy note crushing Rahamatganj MFS by 6-1 goals here yesterday (Thursday).


The popular sky-blue team brilliantly fought back to the title race showing splendid performance in all three super-four matches and raised their tally to 33 points from 15 encounters.


A goal spree in the second half helped the title aspirants Abahani to rule out their opposition in today’s match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium which locked 1-1 in the first half.


Kanchan and Kennedy scored two goals each while Galib and Sabir Pasha scored apiece.


Premier division debutante Galib put the illustrated Dhanmondi outfit ahead in the 8th minute with an accurate header on Indian national Sabir Pasha’s left side cross.


After two minutes Rahamatganj custodian Milon saved his team at the cost of corner fisting Sabir Pasha’s header. But Abahani looked off-colour in the remaining time of the first half and their goalie Apel rescued the team in two occasions.


Just few minutes ahead of the lemon break, Rahamatganj MFS, who dominated the first half creating some chances, leveled the margin as Monir found the net due to Abahani’s defense lapse.


Abahani’s Ghanaian striker Kennedy opened the second half goal fiesta to double the winners margin from a penalty shot. It was his 14th goal in the league.


Substitute striker Kanchan, who came out at the field in the 10th minute of the second half, further increased the tally in the 20th minute with a smooth header from a Sabir cross.


In the 24th minute, Kennedy struck second time with a header to complete his 15th goal in the league from a cross of substitute Zakir. The Ghanaian forward now taking joint lead with Mohammedan striker Naquib.


Kanchan completed his second goal, fifth for his team, in the 35th minute of the second half placing the ball from handshake distance as he got it after Kennedy’s shot deflected from the post.


Indian striker Sabir Pasha sealed the winners tally just before the long whistle as his accurate header kissed the net from a Kennedy cross.

Abahani Limited: Apel, Tito, Nazrul (Dulal), Ghansa, Mithu, Iqbal (Zakir), Sentu, Arman, Kennedy, Sabir Pasha and Galib (Kanchan).


Rahamatganj MFS: Milon (Tito), Monir, Mintu, Kingshuk, Apu, Shamim, Iqbal (Azim), Asit, Chanchal, Moni and Tipu (Zahid).
