Dhaka, May 28 (UNB) – Bangladesh Post Office today issued a commemorative postage stamp of Tk 6 denomination on the occasion of Pepsi 7th Asia Cup Cricket 2000.

A First Day Cover valued Tk 6 was also issued and Special Cancellor used marking the cricket extravaganza in Dhaka, which could not commence today (Sunday) owing to inclement weather.

Inauguration of the four-nation cricket tournament has been postponed for tomorrow (Monday) as incessant rain in the country for last few days swamped the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally released the stamp at a simple ceremony.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Obaidul Quader, Deputy Minister for LGRD Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Post and Telecommunications Secretary Nazmul Ahsan Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh Post Office Ataur Rahman and senior officials were present on the occasion.

The stamp and cover will be simultaneously sold from all head post offices, including four GPO’s.

The commemorative stamp will be subsequently sold from all post offices, including the extra-departmental ones, said an official release.
