Dhaka, May 24 (UNB) – Pakistan has assured its unflinching support to Bangladesh for its bid for test status in the next meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to be held in London next month.

This assurance came when State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader met with the Pakistan Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Minorities Affairs Derick Cyprian at his office in Islamabad today.

Appreciating the booming cricket culture and enthusiastic response the game receives from the people of Bangladesh, Cyprian assured Quader of full cooperation from Pakistan in the development of Bangladesh’s cricket.

Obaidul Quader appreciated the gesture of the Pak Minister and observed that the support of Pakistan would usher in a new chapter of mutual cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the field of sports, especially in cricket.

Referring to the victory of Bangladesh cricket team against Pakistan during the last World Cup, Cyprian highly praised the performance of the World Cup debutant and termed it “a well deserved victory for Bangladesh.”

The Pak Minister expressed his hope that the existing brotherly relations between the two countries would be strengthened further in future.

Cyprian also accepted the invitation of Obaidul Quader to visit Bangladesh during the ensuing Pepsi Asia Cup cricket beginning here on Sunday.

Both the ministers stressed the need for greater exchange of cultural troupe with special emphasis on mutual visits of the athletes and sportsmen between the two countries.

They also exchanged views regarding improvement of the quality of other games and sports including football in their respective countries.

Obaidul Quader further said that both the countries should extend cooperation in developing the infrastructure necessary for healthy growth of sports.

During the meeting, Obaidul Quader was assisted by Bangladesh High Commissioner Alimul Haque, BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Haq while the Pakistan minister was assisted by Sports Secretary Sameen Jan Babar and Pakistan Cricket Board President Lt Gen Tauqir Zia.

Later, Obaidul Quader visited various sports facilities in the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

Earlier, former Pakistani captain Zaheer Abbas also met the minister on his arrival in Karachi on Tuesday and assured full support to Bangladesh during next ICC meeting.

Obaidul Quader left Islamabad for Karachi this (Wednesday) evening on way back home on completion of the two-day tour.
