Dhaka, May 22 (UNB)- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today (Monday) announced 14-member final squad for the 7th Pepsi Asia Cup Cricket beginning Sunday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

 

The final team, picked up from 18 players chosen earlier, is now in a residential camp at the BKSP under the supervision of coach Sarwar Imran who replaced ailing Eddie Barlow.

 

The national team, led by skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul, will return from the camp on Friday and reside at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.

 

Al Shahriar Rokon, Sabbir Khan, Bikas Ranjan Das and Fahim Muntasir Sumit were finally dropped from the selection.

 

The left-arm pacer Bikas Ranjan Das, who showed brilliant performance in the recently concluded premier league, surprised as he lost his place to another southpaw pacer Monjurul Islam Monju.

 

Chief selector Tanveer Haider said they selected the best team for the prestigious tournament emphasizing on experience and fitness of the players.

 

Bangladesh team physio Gavin Benjafield submitted satisfactory report on the players’ fitness at a BCB meeting today (Monday).

 

Afzalur Rahman Sinha, the BCB treasurer, named as manager for the team.

 

The final team: Javed Omar Belim Gulla, Shahriar Hossain Bidyut, Habibul Bashar Sumon, Akram Khan, Aminul Islam Bulbul (captain), Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Mushfiqur Rahman Babu, Khaled Mahmood Sujon, Khaled Masud Pilot (wicket keeper), Mohammed Rafique, Enamul Haq Moni, Hasibul Hossain Shanta, Monjurul Islam Monju and Shafiuddin Ahmed Babu.

 

Meanwhile, former Asia Cup champions India also announced their 14-member final squad.

 

The team: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Rahul Dravid (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammed Azaharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Robin Singh, Hemang Badani, Anil Kumble, Saba Karim (wicket keeper), Sunil Joshi, Nikhil Chopra, Ajit Agarkar, T Kumaran and Amit Bhandari.

 

Officials: Samiran Chakraborty (manager), Kapil Dev (coach) and Andrew Leipus (Physio).
