Dhaka, May 14 (UNB)- Mohammedan SC ended their Janakantha Premier Division Cricket League campaign with a frustrating note swallowing a 58-run defeat against Surjo Tarun Club today (Sunday).

 

After the fourth defeat in the super league today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, the traditional Motijheel outfit completed with 16 points conceding eight defeats in the league.

 

On the other hand, Surjo Tarun Club finished fourth in the league after the day’s impressive win raising their tally to 20 points.

 

Opting to bat first, Surjo Tarun Club made a challenging total of 240 runs losing nine wickets in stipulated 50 overs.

 

They fell into a trouble losing three wickets at 23 runs but the fourth wicket partnership between Mohammed Rafiqul and Akhter Sarfaraz repaired the early damage associating 68 runs.

 

Mohammedan skipper Ather Ali Khan broken this partnership when opener Rafiqul returned to the pavilion being caught by Matin making 40 runs off 60 balls with five fours.

 

Surjo Tarun’s Pakistani recruit Akhter Sarfaraz made another fruitful association of 96 runs with national wicket keeper Khaled Masud Pilot.

 

Akhter Sarfaraz retired back to the dressing room making unbeaten 62 runs off 78 balls that featured four hits to the fence.

 

Pilot, who showed brilliant batting form in the current league, scored yet another half century making 52 off 73 balls with six fours before giving a return catch to Mohammad Rafique.

 

Pakistani Manzoor Elahi helped his team to make dependable total playing a hurricane 33 runs knock facing only 23 deliveries that included two fours and one six.

 

MA Matin picked up three wickets conceding 28 runs in 7.1 overs while Mohammad Rafique also claimed three for 36 runs in his 10-over spell.

 

In reply, Mohammedan Sporting Club were all out for 182 runs in 44.5 overs. Two overs were curtailed from Mohammedan innings for their delayed bowling in the first innings.

 

Skipper Ahter Ali Khan was the top scorer for his side making 60 runs off 92 balls with five boundaries and one over boundary.

 

The veteran right-handed batsman added 89 runs in 21.3 overs in the fifth wicket stand with Dofin, who scored 40 runs off 69 balls.

 

Number six batsman Mohammed Rafique played with his style hitting a run-a-ball 32 including four boundaries and one over boundary.

 

Pacer Anisur Rahman Anis was the most successful bowler for Surjo Tarun capturing three wickets for 35 runs in 9 overs while spinner Enamul Haq Moni took two wickets for 21 runs.
