After three defeats in a row, Mohammedan Sporting Club returned to their winning ways with a hard fought victory over Gopibagh Friends Association at the BKSP ground in Savar yesterday.

In a low scoring affair, Mohammedans put the promotes in to bat and shot  in them out for just 147 in 38.1 overs, with their spin trio of Ruwan Kalpage, Mohammad Rafique and Hashan Rillekeratne sharing six wickets among themselves.

In replay, Mohammedan, who were coming off three successive defeats at the hands of Surjo Tarun, Abahani and Biman, lost six wickets before reaching their target.

The win was Mohammedan's fifth in nine matches.

Mohammedans were off to a poor start when both openers departed by the 10th over.

Gopibagh's new ball bowler Ashique gave the break through dismissing Rashedul Haque (17) and Sri Lankan Duleep Samaraweera (13) in successive overs.

One-down Nasirul Alam and number four Ruwan Kalpage of Sri Lanka then repaired the innings with a 45-run third wickets partnership.

But after Nasirul was third out on 21 with 79 on the scoreboard, Mohammedan lost another three wickets before Sri Lankan Hashan Tillekeratne and captain Athar Ali took them home.

Middle orders Kalpage and Neeyamur Rashid were the highest run getters for Mohammedan with 25 each.

Earlier, the modest Gopibagh's total was built around Indian recruit Gurmeet Singh's 53.

Off spinner Kalpage was the most successful Mohammedan bowler taking three wickets for 33 runs while left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique returned with two for 20 for eight overs.

The loss was Gopibagh's eighth in nine outings.
