Dhaka, Apr 4 (UNB)- Tripura Sports Journalists Association (TSJA) lost to Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association (BSJA) by two runs in a nail-biting exhibition cricket match at the Mirpur City Club ground today (Tuesday).

 

BSJA also beat the same opponent in their own soil by five wickets.

 

Chasing the winning target of 161 runs, Tripura sports journalists completed their 25-over quota making 158 runs for three wickets.

 

A brilliant 135-run third wicket partnership between Debobroto and Monimoy made the match an exciting one as the tourists needed 14 runs in the last over with eight wickets in hand.

 

The match posted in a tense position when they needed six runs in the last ball of the innings.

 

Umpire called the last ball no ball and TSJA managed two runs but Debobroto failed to hit a boundary against Shamim to win the match in the last bonus ball of the innings.

 

Later Debobroto and Monimoy were jointly adjudged man of the match by adjudicator Jahangir Shah Badsha, a former national cricketer.

 

Debobroto made an unbeaten 54 runs off 57 balls that featured four boundaries while Monimoy hammered 69 runs off 68 balls with seven boundaries and two over boundaries over the mid-wicket before being bowled by Shamim in the last over.

 

Left-arm pacer Shamim was the most successful bowler for BSJA claiming two wickets for 31 runs in his 5-over quota while his opening partner Partho took one wicket for 24 runs in 4 overs.

 

Earlier, BSJA made dependable 160 runs for six wickets in the stipulated 25 overs.

 

Badal and Dodul gave a solid foundation for the home side making 77 runs in the opening stand in 13.1 overs.

 

Dodul scored team highest 53 runs off 60 balls with three hits across the rope and his partner Badal added 30 off 42 balls with two boundaries.

 

One down Partho was the other notable scorer making 36 runs off 35 balls that featured three boundaries while Danish played a hurricane innings off 20 runs facing only eight balls that included one four and two sixes.

 

Monimoy picked up three wickets conceding 24 runs in 5 overs while Ashish and Debobroto took one wicket each.

 

BCB President and Deputy Minister for LGRD Saber Hossain Chowdhury inaugurated the match while State Miniter for Jute AK Faizul Haq distributed the prizes.
