Calcutta, April 16: Sourav Ganguly is mentally preparing himself to defer his county championship debut for Lancashire.

The Prince of Calcutta who has dreamt of playing in the English county championship since the time he first picked up a cricket bat may miss Lancashire’s first championship match due to start on April 27 since the Government wants him in Delhi on April 27.

"If the Government wants me there, I will have to be present. I have not received any information so far. If I have to be in India, I will miss the opening championship game," said Ganguly who is slated to bat at No. 4 in the championship.

Ganguly is among the Indian cricketers and officials who Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has asked to be in Delhi for a meeting on April 27.

Meanwhile, in the Benson and Hedges and NatWest Trophy matches that have got under way, he will open the innings with former England captain Michael Atherton. He was keen to come to terms with the cold conditions in England.
