Defender Lankans already in semiís beating Malaysia

Dhaka-- (UNB) - Defending champions Sri Lanka continued their march over their group-A opponents in the Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament as the islanders vanquished Malaysia by 296 runs yesterday to book a seat in the semifinal.
In the dayís another encounter, title contender India, who arrived in the city on Friday, started their campaign in the second version of the juvenile tournament with happy note as they trounced United Arab Emirates by 257 runs.
At the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Malaysia suffered the huge defeat bundling out for 39 runs in 13.4 overs in reply to the Sri Lankaís towering total of 335 runs in their third encounter.
Sri Lanka is now on top of group-A securing full six points from three matches as they earlier earned 10-wicket victory over Oman in their opening clash while outplayed United Arab Emirates by 234 runs in the second match.
Captain S Wijerathana hit 101 runs off 108 balls to lead his team to score huge 335 runs for five wickets in stipulated 45 overs after deciding to bat first. Later, he was adjudged man of the match.
Opener Gunawardana, who made a ton in the previous match against UAE, missed back-to-back century just five runs short. His quick-fire 95 runs came from only 65 deliveries that featured 17 boundaries.
Wicket-keeper G de Silva was another notable scorer making 44 off 58 balls.
Waran and Shukri A Rahim took two wickets each for Malaysia conceding 86 and 46 runs respectively.
Chasing the daunting task, Malaysia could play only 13.4 overs to score 39 runs with only one batsman Esrafiq Azis reached the double figure making 16 runs.
I Dilshan and T Perera played key role to destroy the Malaysian innings. Dilshan picked up four wickets for two runs in 2.4 overs while Perera wrecked the top order claiming three wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs.

At the DU Jagannath Hall cricket ground, India demolished UAE by 257 runs riding on a sizzling 99-run knock by Deepak Chawgule who guided his side to score huge 325 runs for 8 wickets in stipulated 45 overs after being sent into bat first
One down Deepak was dismissed just one run short of his hundred playing only 71 deliveries that featured 12 fours and a six. He associated 104 runs in the second wicket with his captain Parthiv Patel who scored 74 runs off 86 balls with 11 hits across the rope.
Number six batsman Mohnish Misra played another quick-fire innings off 68 runs in 41 balls hitting three over boundaries and eight boundaries.
Imran Khan of UAE captured three wickets for 42 runs while Imran Butt took two for 52 runs.
In reply, the gulf state lost their eight wickets for 37 runs but they were finally dismissed for 68 runs in 34.3 overs because of a 22-run innings by number nine batsman Leon Carlo, the only batsman who reached double digit.
K Rawal and Rakesh Mohanty claimed three wickets each while Shankar took two.
