Dhaka-- (UNB) – Bangladesh Biman clinched the coveted title of Second National Cricket League in style as they earned a massive victory of an innings and 55 runs over Khulna Division at the Jessore Stadium yesterday (Tuesday).


The national flag carrier team achieved this rare feat in their first appearance in the domestic cricket’s most prestigious league, which was recently awarded First Class status by the International Cricket Council.


Biman raised their tally to 50 points after securing six points from the match.


Last year’s champions Chittagong Division became runners-up with 44 points despite losing four points to Dhaka Metropolis in their four-day match that ended at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.


Newcomer Dhaka Metropolis snatched four points from Chittagong Division but this was not good enough to gain second position as they scored 40 points. Khulna bagged 36 points.


The teams will play limited-over matches for two points in the their respective venues but it is just formalities for the teams.


At the Jessore Shamsulhuda Stadium, Mohammad Sharif and Anwar Hossain Monir shaped the Biman’s huge victory over Khulna Division with leathers.


Resuming with overnight score of 82 for 2 wickets, Khulna Division were dismissed for 145 runs on the last day of the four-day match trailing behind Biman’s 200 runs first innings lead.


Monir, who took both the wickets on the third day, finished as a most successful bowler for Biman picking up four wickets for 34 runs in 19 overs while promising pacer Sharif claimed three wickets for 38 runs in 17 overs.


Right arm spinner Ziaur Rashid Rupom took two wickets conceding 17 runs in his eight- over spell.


Opener Raju Parvez was the top scorer for Khulna in their second innings with 34 runs off 109 balls while Asadullah Biplob made unbeaten 28 off 62 balls.

Khulna Division 1st Innings- 289/10. Khulna Division 2nd Innings- 145/10 in 63 overs, Raju 34, J Babu 27, Biplob 28 n.o., Sohel 14, extras 17, Sharif 3/38, Monir 4/34, Rupom 2/17.
