Dhaka-- (UNB – Mohammad Ashraful marched over Chittagong Division with all round performance to eliminate the holders from a title race of the Second National Cricket League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday (Monday).


A 7-wicket haul by leg spinner Ashraful, who scored 157 runs to reach a mammoth total in the first innings, enabled Dhaka Metropolis to take a huge 129-run first innings lead as Chittagong dismissed for 374 runs in reply to Metro’s 503 runs.


Chittagong’s failure helped Bangladesh Biman to almost confirm the title of the second version of the league as the national flag carrier team guaranteed four points against Khulna Division taking the first innings lead in another match.


Newcomer Dhaka Metropolis, who almost confirmed four points by virtue of first innings lead, took an overall 167-run lead as they scored 38 for one when the bails were drawn for the third day of the four-day Green Delta National League.


Halim Shah and Al Shahriar Rokon were batting with 9 and 18 runs respectively at stumps while Mohammad Ashraful was only the batsman to return to the pavilion making 11 runs before being caught by Nafis off Safiuddin.


Resuming with overnight score of 122 for 2, defending champions Chittagong were all out for 374 runs in 123.4 overs riding on Ehsanul Haq ton.


Young spinner Ashraful denied Chittagong Division to cross their first innings total picking up seven wickets for 99 runs in 31.4 overs.


Ehsanul Haq Seezan, who resumed with overnight score of 18 runs, made 101 playing 212 deliveries that featured 15 boundaries.


Former national captain Akram Khan and Biman skipper Minhajul Abedin Nannu were the other notable scorers for the Chittagong Division and young Ashraful handed both the batsmen.


Akram scored 58 runs off 115 balls with seven hits across the rope while Nannu added 55 runs off 106 balls with six boundaries.
