Dhaka-- (UNB - Holders Chittagong Division began well chasing the mammoth first innings total of Dhaka Metropolis at the end of the second day of the four-day Green Delta National Cricket League yesterday (Sunday).


Replying to Metropolis’ 503 runs, the defending champions made 122 for 2 in 40 overs when the bails were drawn for the day at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.


Nafis Iqbal and Azam Iqbal made a perfect start for Chittagong contributing 82 runs in the opening stand. Promising opener Nafis scored 50 runs off 91 balls with seven fours and a six while Azam added 29 runs off 98 deliveries.


Ehsanul Haq Seezan and Rezaul Hasan were batting with 18 and 20 runs respectively at stumps.


Captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon captured one wicket for 51 runs in 12 overs while leg spinner Mohammad Ashraful, who hammered a century for Chittagong in the 1st innings, took one wicket for 2 runs in 4 overs.


Earlier, Dhaka Metropolis declared their first innings at 503 for 9 in 151 overs.


One down Al Shahriar Rokon, who resumed his innings with overnight 90 runs, failed to reach the magic three figures by five runs when trapped leg before by pacer Safiuddin Ahmed.


Dhaka Metropolis lost three quick wickets on the second day for eight runs. But two lower order batsmen Mafizul Islam and Neeyamur Rashid Rahul did an excellent job to take the team total to the five hundredth mark.


Number nine Mafizul scored 58 runs off 153 balls that featured six boundaries while Rahul contributed 69 runs off 132 balls with eleven hits to the fence.


Pacer Safiuddin Ahmed Babu finished as the most successful bowler for Chittagong claiming four wickets for 95 runs in 36 overs while Anisur Rahman took two for 64 runs.
