Dhaka-- (UNB) - Bangladesh Biman and Chittagong Division earned double successes to extend their lead in the Green Delta National Cricket League as they beat their respective rivals in the limited-over matches yesterday (Sunday).


The title race is now almost centered between the two teams who finished top after third round of the four-team final round securing 44 points while losers Dhaka Metropolis and Khulna Division still on 36 points.


Title aspirants Bangladesh Biman, who made their first appearance in the second version of the high-rated domestic tournament, crashed Dhaka Metropolis by 8 wickets at the BKSP ground yesterday (Sunday).


A captain's knock of unbeaten 102 runs by Faruque Ahmed guided the national flag carrier team to earn a comfortable victory over formidable Metropolis side, which had earlier lost four points in the four-day match.


Riding on Faruque's undefeated knock Biman reached the winning target making 176 runs in 30.2 overs losing two wickets of Javed Omar (32) and Habibul Bashar (10) in reply to Metropolis's 172 runs.


The former national captain Faruque belted 20 boundaries and one over boundary facing 130 balls while his opening partner Javed added 32 off 61 deliveries.


National skipper Durjoy and Mukul took one wicket each for Dhaka Metropolis.


Earlier, Dhaka Metropolis scored 172 runs for nine wickets in stipulated 50 overs after deciding to bat first.


AH Monir restricted the opposition claiming four wickets for 40 runs while veteran Jahangir Alam Dulu captured two wickets for 23 runs.


Number seven batsman Halim Shah was the top scorer for Dhaka Metro making 37 runs off 80 deliveries with five fours while opener Opee, the ton maker in the four-day match, added 29 runs off 26 balls.


Brief Score: Dhaka Metropolis- 172/9 in 50 overs, Opee 29, Biplob 15, Halim 37, Rahul 27, Saiful 13, Mukul 20 n.o., extras 21, Dulu 2/23, Monir 4/40, Rupon 1/25, Sharif 1/50, Amir Wasim 1/24.


Bangladesh Biman- 176/2 in 39.2 overs, Javed 32, Faruque 102 n.o., Habibul 10, Sanwar 6 n.o., extras 24, Durjoy 1/19, Mukul 1/32.
