Dhaka--(UNB) – A top order batting collapse in the second innings of BCB XI helped the touring Australian boys to post an emphatic 155-run win over the hosts in the four-day match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board Eleven learnt the lesson by the tourists out of their lack of patients and temperament dismissing for only 140 runs except a defiant 52 by number nine batsman Mohammad Rafique.

Former legendary Australian wicket-keeper Rodney Marsh, the head coach of the visiting Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy (CBCA) who witnesses the match, said that Bangladesh showed “ridiculous” performance.

“I couldn’t realize what was Bangladesh’s intention in the remaining hours of the last day,” he said and pointed out that the test babes need to find out aggressive new ball bowlers to maintain their performance.

Apart from Mohammad Rafique, two other tail enders -- Fahim Muntasir Sumit and Hasibul Hossain Shanta -- fought hard to salvage the home side but at the end of the day it could just delay the visitors’ victory.

The dashing left-hander Mohammad Rafique came out at the crease after his captain Khaled Masud Pilot’s dismissal with the scoreboard reading 54 for 7 chasing the winning target of 296 runs set by the visitors.

Rafique did tremendous job with his trademark batting creating a ray of hope with the highest 43-run eighth wicket stand with young Mossadeq Hossain Rubel but it ended when Rubel played an ambitious shot giving a catch at short mid-wicket to Williams off O’Brien.

Hammering 52 runs off 64 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Mohammad Rafique returned to the pavilion when Chaitra gripped a running catch off Voges pushing the score to 131 for 9.

The host team needed to play eight more balls to save the match but pacer McDonald broken the slim hope with a beautiful delivery which reached into Voges’s safe hand at second slip kissing Fahim Muntasir Sumit’s willow.

Earlier, the CBCA declared their second innings before the lunch break scoring 332 runs for 6 in 86.1 overs resuming with overnight score of 235 for 3.

The host team made a devastating start in their second innings as Rashedul Haq Sumon returned to the pavilion caught at short cover by Williams off pacer Welsford when scoreboard showing without run.

One down Rajin Saleh hurriedly followed the opener with duck being trapped leg before wicket by McDonald when scoreboard reading only one and another opener Hannan Sarker was bowled by Welsford when the score was 9.

Mazharul Haq Mridul (10), the ton maker of the first innings, national all rounder Mushfiqur Rahman Babu (16) and Anisur Rahman Sanchoy (1) just threw their wickets to swallow the shameful defeat.

Pacer McDonald was the most successful bowler for CBCA claiming three wickets while Welsford and O’Brien captured two wickets each.

Earlier, Shaun Marsh and O’Brien brilliantly batted to reach a commanding total of 332 runs for 6 wickets in their second innings.

Shaun Marsh, who resumed with 55 runs, made the team highest 89 runs off 130 balls with five boundaries before giving a return catch to left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique.

Another unbeaten batsman O’Brien hammered 70 runs off 96 deliveries with three fours and two sixes before being bowled by spinner Fahim Muntasir Sumit.

Test cap bowler Rafique finished his figure with 3 for 60 while Sanchoy, Sumit and Rubel took one wicket each.
