Dhaka-- (UNB) – A seven-wicket haul by veteran spinner Enamul Haq Moni enabled holders Chittagong Division to restrict Dhaka Metropolis at 219 runs on the first day of the four-day National Cricket League at the Comilla Stadium yesterday (Thursday).

National captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy was dismissed one run short of his second ton in the league to help Dhaka Metropolis score a respectable 219 for all in 60.1 overs.

In reply, defending champions Chittagong Division, who lost their previous four-day and one-day encounters, made a good start making 109 for 3 in 36 overs when bails were drawn for the day.

Opener Azam Iqbal was batting with 60 runs off 112 balls that featured eight boundaries while Rezaul faced three balls without scoring any run.

National league’s new sensation Nafis Iqbal scored 23 runs off 25 deliveries while captain Minhajul Abedin Nannu made 21 off 40 balls.

Durjoy, Ashraful and Mukul took one wicket each.

Winning the toss, newcomer Dhaka Metropolis lost an early wicket – that of Mehrab Hossain Opee who was caught by Seezan off Anis when the scoreboard showed only one run.

Promising opener Mohammad Ashraful (8) and national batsman Al Shahriar Rokon (22) started to repair the early damage, but the second wicket partnership (27 runs) did not last long as Moni began to claim wickets at regular interval.

Left-arm national spinner Moni finished with 21.1-4-74-7 to deny the opposition any formidable total. Anis, Shahed Mehmood and Shafiuddin Babu took one wicket apiece.

Number five Durjoy was the only batsman who fought a lone battle against the Chittagong division attacks making 99 off 119 balls with 19 fours before caught by Sabbir off Moni.
